Herradura was founded in 1861 by Feliciano Romo to Amatitán, a town situated about 10 km from the town of Tequila in the state of Jalisco. Legend has it that Feliciano Romo while seeking the ideal place to build the distillery, has found a horseshoe, it has always been considered a good luck charm, and he decided that this would be the ideal place of business. Herradura fully owns all the plantations of agave from which their tequila is produced. In addition Herradura ferments, distills, ages and bottles the entire range, without the addition of additives, colorants or sweeteners. Thanks to an idea of the wife of Feliciano Romo, Gabriela de la Peña, Herradura was the first hacienda that, in 1974, began producing the reposado, tequila aged 11 months. It dates back to 1962 their first production of tequila añejo, aged for two years in oak barrels.
