Távora-Varosa is a controlled denomination of origin (DOC) which takes in parts of the region, like Moimenta da Beira, Penedono, Sernancelhe, and Tabuaço. This DOC is characterized by the production of white, red and rosé wines; all of them sparkling.
This is an area rich in strains, among which Malvasia Preta, Marufo, Tinta Barroca, Barca, and Touriga Franca stand out; they are used for the production of red wines. Chardonnay, Dona Branca, and Malvasia Fina, for white wines. In addition to the strains we have previously mentioned, in Távora-Varosa the following are also cultivated: Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina, Malvasia Rei and Pinot Blanc; all of them for the production of sparkling wines.
