The property was once known as "Pagos de la Vega de Santa Cecilia", then become Vega Sicilia. It is located in the heart of Old Castile, in the famous wine region of Ribera del Duero. The vineyards are located on a soil composition of siliceous-calcareous alluvial and partly at a height of about seven hundred meters above sea level, where the proximity to the River Duero promotes ideal climatic conditions. In 1982, Vega Sicilia was acquired by the Alvarez family has restored and renovated the cellar. The winemaking is managed by the oenologist Xavier ANSAS. The Alvarez family owns two other wineries in Spain, Bodegas y Viñedos Alión in the Ribera del Duero and Toro Pintia in the region, and Oremus winery in Hungary, near Tokaj
