Chateau d'Armailhac has a complicated history, especially since the owners seem to be persistently undecided about the name of the property. For the moment seems to have settled on the name of d'Armailhac, reflecting the origins of the estate, it seems appropriate, and it seems that this name will settle.

It was Dominique d'Armailhacq who created the farm, having purchased the vineyard of Nicolas-Alexandre de Segur, called Prince-des-Vignes, sometime between 1718 and 1740. The Marquis de Segur Pauillac vineyards sold to three men, the northern of Brane sold Joseph, who became Brane-Mouton, now known as Mouton-Rothschild. The southerners were acquired by François de Pontet, and today is Pontet-Canet. Those of the half came to Dominique, and these vineyards became the d'Armailhac we know today.

Following its acquisition, Dominique has expanded the farm, and its acquisition of the buildings included in the Chateau Brane-Mouton. For areas of marketing, renamed his farm Dominique Château Mouton-d'Armailhacq.From the vineyards acquired, perhaps the most significant was Carruades, one of the best places in the commune of Pauillac. Mouton d'Armailhacq was clearly a vineyard to be taken into account, although records indicate that it is still languished in the shadows of its more illustrious neighbors.
