Macabeo wines

Macabeo is a white grape native to Spain. It also takes the name of Viura and Macabeo, among others. It is the main white variety in the denominations of origin Calatayud, Conca de Barberá, Costers del Segre, Navarra, Penedes, Rioja, Somontano, Tarragona and Terra Alta.

Macabeo grape is golden, with highly branched and compact clusters. It's late harvest and hold frost. Sensitive to mildew and botrytis cinerea.
Macabeo wines have aromas of lemon and white flowers.
In the mouth, Macabeo wines have good acidity and medium body. The Maccabees gives body to the caves, near the parellada and Xarel·lo.

Macabeo wines have little capacity for aging in barrels, although in the bottle in the case of sparkling wines.

The most interesting pairings Macabeo wines are fatty cheeses, pasta, chicken and salads with some flavor (Caesar salad and tuna salad).
