Portal del Montsant

The architect Alfredo Arribas began his career in the wine world in 2001 with the Clos del Portal farm project in the Priorat, among Bellmunt, the Molar and Lloar. Recovering abandoned terraces and costers, working with diversity of grape varieties and clones, outlining an advanced model of organic viticulture. All framed in a beautiful landscape that respectfully integrates cutting-edge building that houses the winery.

The curiosity to discover the potential of wines from neighboring Montsant, encouraged him to work in parallel making a first wine in 2004-an excellent add-selecting grapes, particularly carignan old Masroig area. The magnificent results obtained by Santbru 2004 reaffirms the new project.

In this cellar featuring the work with historical varieties in the area: mainly Grenache and Carignan, grape that predominates in the southwest of the Denomination of Origin. The wines are fine, fragrant, elegant and take his name and Brunus Santbru-founder (San Bruno of Cologne) for the monastic order of the Carthusians, drivers of culture and cultivation of the vine.

With Portal del Montsant, Alfredo Arribas seeks to trace the origins, reinvent a story that never really existed as such, given the short existence of the DO-in the pursuit of a typical, some classical and differential time. Are developed two families of wines: Santbru, wines rooted in tradition and identity of the Montsant through the landscapes of their old vines, and Brunus, wine that symbolize new directions in the interpretation of the DO Montsant. Portal del Montsant has gathered over the years a representative mix of vineyards owned or leased, depending on the best combination of soils, altitudes and directions.

In the original red, Carignan base, have joined every year Grenache white wines, remarkable for their freshness and pink on today is already legendary.
